The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services System (HSS System) includes the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority, the Hay River Health and Social Services Authority, the Tłįchǫ Community Services Agency, and the Department of Health and Social Services.

The HSS System is the single provider of all health and social services in the Northwest Territories (NWT), covering 1.2 million square kilometers and serving approximately 43,000 people, including First Nations, Inuit, Metis, and non-aboriginals.

There are a number of rehabilitation related positions within the HSS System, including audiologists, speech language pathologists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists, with positions available in several of the Northwest Territories largest communities, including Hay River, Inuvik, and Yellowknife.

JOB SUMMARY: To provide diagnostic, intervention and referral services to communication and swallowing impaired clients of the Speech Language Pathology Unit in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Rules of Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC) and the philosophy and objective of the Hay River Health & Social Services Authority (HRHSSA) to overcome and prevent communication problems/disorders in language, speech, voice and fluency, as well as swallowing impairments. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of cognitive and functional development and impairment related to speech and language development including anatomy, physiology and pathology in a variety of age groups. Ability to apply therapeutic processes (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) to ensure that the patients’ physical, emotional, psychosocial, educational and day-to-day living needs are met. Ability to educate patients, their families (where applicable), school staff and other health care professionals on appropriate self-development methods and techniques. Knowledge of biological, physical, behavioral and mental health sciences. JOB SUMMARY: The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides comprehensive diagnostic services and intervention and referral services to clients so to aid in their recovery or maintain a maximum level of functioning and independence. Occupational Therapy services are provided in accordance with legislation, standards, guidelines, ethics of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), Provincial OT licensing, Canadian Council Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA.), the physician orders and the policies of the Hay River Health & Social Services Authority. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: This level of knowledge is normally acquired through a Master’s of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. Broad base of clinical experience and theoretical knowledge in Occupational Therapy is preferred. Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required. Time management and well developed organizational skills to manage a large and varied caseload, as well as required department management activities. Ability to communicate through verbal and written. Ability to work independently in all areas of Occupational Therapy practice is required. Current CPR certificate. Registration/licensure with an appropriate Occupational Therapy Canadian Provincial regulatory body. Active membership in the CAOT.
